Norfolk Southern: Train derails in DeKalb County, no threat
DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) — A train has derailed in DeKalb County, Alabama, near the Georgia line.
Norfolk Southern and first responders confirmed the train derailment.
A total of five train cars derailed.
The derailment happened in a remote location in the north end of the county, near Battelle.
Norfolk Southern says there is no danger due to the derailment. There was no hazardous material involved and there is no threat to life.
The derailment happened around 11:30 a.m. eastern time on Friday.
DeKalb County emergency personnel said they were on scene with Norfolk Southern assessing the situation.
It is currently unclear what caused the derailment.
