North Georgia primary election results 2024
CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — The Georgia primary election took place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The election results are slowly coming in throughout the evening. Races are from several north Georgia counties, along with District 53 state senator and District 14 U.S. representative.
Colton Moore beat challenger Angela Pence with 70% of the vote. Moore will go on to run against Democrat challenger Bart Bryant.
No Republicans challenged United States Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in District 14.
However, four Democrats were running to challenge her. Clarence Blalock and Shawn “General” Harris were neck and neck, with both having about 38% of the vote. They will move on to a runoff next month.
Catoosa County Results
The Referendum School Tax Homestead Exemption was overwhelmingly approved by county residents. 94% of people voted “yes” on the tax. This will change the rules on who qualifies for school tax exemptions. Learn more about that here.
Ringgold’s City Brunch Bill passed with 64% of the vote. This will extend liquor by the drink sales on Sunday afternoons.
The Catoosa County Commission Chair race was too close to call. Larry Black won with only 37% of the vote, meaning it will go into a runoff come June 18.
District three’s commission race did not have an overwhelming win, either. It will also go into a runoff. Vanita Hullander won 46% of the vote, Richard Tharpe had 28% and Jimmy Gray had 22% of the vote.
Dade County Results
In Dade County, Don Townsend narrowly avoided a runoff by receiving 50.2% of the vote in the County Commission Chair race. He beat out Daniel Case and Rober Ryan III, who each received less than 30% of the vote.
Murray County Results
Incumbent Sheriff Jimmy Davenport will remain in office. He beat Jeremy Thompson with 66% of the vote.
Noah Bishop beat incumbent Sole County Commissioner Greg Hogan. Bishop won with 50% of the vote, and Hogan had just 40%.
Walker County Results
Walker County votes were in just before 9 p.m.
Angela “Angie” Teems upset incumbent Walker County Commission Chairperson Shannon Whitfield. Teems won with 59% of the vote.
Walker County incumbent Sheriff Steve Wilson defeated challenger Don Stultz. Sheriff Wilson won the race with 74% of the vote.
William H. “Billy” Sims won the Walker County Coroner race with 66% of the vote.
Brian Hart won the district three commissioner race, and Gene Wilson narrowly beat James Husley in the district four commissioner race.
Whitfield County Results
Whitfield County’s incumbent Sheriff is democrat Scott Chitwood. No democrats are running against Chitwood. However, there were five republicans running against him.
Darren J. Pierce won the Republican Sheriff race with 54% of the vote. He beat out Travis Presley, Glenn Swinney, Glenn Tate and Frank Torres.
Incumbent County Commission Chairman Jevin S. Jensen beat David Renz with 55% of the vote.
The SPLOST passed in Whitfield County with 60% voting yes.
Plus, the Sunday Sales by the Drink passed in Tunnel Hill with 55% voting yes.
