North Georgia fire updates show 3 working fires in our area

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – Georgia forestry officials report they have put out 21 fires in the North Georgia region in the last 24 hours.

But three big ones continue to burn, all in our area, contributing to our smoke problems (plus one federal fire.)

TATUM GULF (Lookout Mountain)

The Tatum Gulf fire has joined with the Cloverdale fire to make one large blaze that has burned 1325 acres.

The fire is only 10% contained right now and threatening 160 residences.

The Lookout Highlands Subdivision was evacuated over the weekend to give crews more room to fight the fires.

They do not expect to lose any homes to the flames.

CREEK ROAD (Lookout Mountain)

The Creek Road fire is much smaller, just 100 acres at this point.

But they expect it to grow to 150.

It is 25% contained.

There is only one home in the area and they say it is safe.

ROCKY FACE (Dalton)

The Rocky Face Mountain fire continues to burn north of Dalton.

It is currently at 500 acres, but officials expect it to grow to 750 before it is done.

They say it is 75% contained and it the mop up stages right now.

ROUGH RIDGE (Cohutta Wilderness)

The biggest smoke maker of them all continues to spread in the Cohutta Wilderness.

The Rough Ridge fire is far from inhabited areas, south of the Ocoee River, between Eton & Blue Ridge.

It is now over 16,000 acres.
