North Georgia Fires Update

(WDEF) – The Georgia Forestry Commission has extinguished 24 fires in the North Georgia area since yesterday and are currently working 4 active fires in the area; one on Treat Mountain near Cedartown, two on Lookout Mountain in Dade / Walker County, and one in Rocky Face.

Firefighters are also engaged in structure protection on Lookout Mountain as the fire encroaches on homes and property. There is currently no damage or evacuations.

The Fox Mountain Fire has been contained and is currently being monitored.

The fire which broke out on the Trail of Tears is being managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Floyd County, where this fire originated, has a county wide burn ban in place.

The Rough Ridge Fire continues to grow in size. The Georgia Forestry Commission is working with Forest Service to track the fire’s progress and there is no imminent threat.

The Forest Service is also working a fire in Rabun County.

The Georgia Forestry Commission Fire Prevention Team has arrived in North Georgia and is working to provide assistance, if possible.
