North Murray vs NW Whitfield Features QB Showdown With Brooker and Griffin

Two of the top quaterbacks in the area are facing off against each other in the battle of Northwest Whitfield and North Murray. Both QB’s are seniors and have been the starter for most of all of their high school career. News 12’s Brian Armstrong finds out what makes both gunslingers so special.

North Murray and NorthWest Whitfield rivalry has plenty of offensive power. Both are lead by skilled senior QBs. For North Murray is Seth Griffin

Said North Murray head coach Preston Poag:”He can run, he’s a big body is probably at six for about 200 pounds and can run. I try to make it hard on defensive coordinators. Everyone thinks I just throw every time, I don’t we were in the bar just as much as we throw it that just adds another element and guys just get ready for during the week.”

And on the other side it’s Owen Brooker for NW Whitfield.

Said Bruins head coach Josh Robinson:”e love him to death he’s been starting since his very first game as a freshman, now we’re four games in his senior year he’s got a lot of experience.”

Said Brooker:”We just have to love the guys you’re playing with I want them to succeed as much as I want myself to succeed and it’s all about the team for me. It’s a team sport if I wanted to be about me I’d play an individual game. I like the team aspect.”

They have also known each other for a long time.

Said Griffin:”Me and Owen actually used to be best friends growing up that he moved to Northwest, so yeah we’re both quarterbacks and I’m gonna do what I can do to win the game and control my offense and I’m sure he’ll do the same, so I think it’ll be a great battle.”

And Griffin says they have similar personalities

Said Griffin:”Owens very very laid-back, just a laid-back kid and goes with the flow. I feel like I’m the same so it’s more like we’re kind of focused on our own team.”

Both qbs are able to sling it through the air and have a chance at breaking some records.

Said Poag:”I think it’s right at breaking all the records, it’s his third year starting. He’s made a lot of football to play a game or two especially here in like art so he’s played a lot of football. I expect a lot of him.”

Said Robinson:”Going into the year it was 43rd all-time in passing yards, the replicates last year he’s gonna end up like seven times in the state of Georgia. He’s already thrown for 900 yards or so.”

But both coaches say records aren’t what the talents QBs are focused on.

Said Robinson:”The great thing about him and his guys are like that social media and all that stuff, typical kid is worried about that thing and that really means something to him Owen is

of those guys really couldn’t care less. If he throws 40 yards in the next seven games and we’re 10 now he’s gonna be perfectly happy.”

Said Brooker:”I just try not to think about it once a month and done here in Northwest, I’m done playing we can get them up and see where I’m at.”
