Northshore Businesses Experience Water Leak

“We noticed that there was a flood…not a flood, but a leak back here and it had saturated all of our rugs and it was just constant. We couldn’t sell. There were customers in and they were walking through water”, said Nicole Griffin co-owner of North Shore Art store Tangerinas.

3 businesses were affected by the leak.

River Street Deli, Pure Vida Juice Bar, and Tangerinas.

“We called the water company first and they, they couldn’t find the leak for the longest time”, Griffin said.

That leak was due to the temporary water pipe the Tennessee American water company installed just a few days ago, said Daphne Kirksey.

“Our crew came out and looked at the fire hydrant. Which is where the water was coming from. There was pressure building up and the water was just draining underneath the fire hydrant and apparently it saturated the ground and that’s when it got into the businesses.”

The water company had the fire hydrant shut off so they could perform testing.

It’s been a few days and Tangerinas said they’re still trying to dry things out.

“We still have fans and humidifiers set up so we can’t really get the production done that we need to”, said Griffin.

Despite the inconvenience Griffin said  Tennessee American Water has helped out tremendously.

“They’ve taken great care of us. Even that day, they stopped in several times and just apologized  and helped us dry things up.”

Tennessee American Water says they plan to be finished with the project by the end of the week.
