Northwest Whitfield Seeking Stronger Finish This Season
Northwest Whitfield chalked up another winning record last year, as well as a playoff berth.
Yet the Bruins were disappointed in how they finished the year..
They’re dreaming of a brighter fall, as the Bruins leap into the 30-in-30 spotlight.
Teams always feel optimistic when they return a veteran quarterback.
Take Northwest Whitfield, Gavin Nuckolls threw for 25-hundred yards last year as a sophomore.
Said Nuckolls:”We do bring back a lot of experience this year and confidence definitely. So many game time reps now.”
The Bruins were 6-5 a season ago, but they dropped their last four games.
Said defensive back Rayvon Foster:”We’re going to have to keep a better mentality whenever we are playing better competition.”
Said Nuckolls:”Problem last year was the first half. We always struggled in the first half. Second half we would come back strong. We need to play four full quarters.”
Better defense will help.
Northwest surrendered four or more touchdowns a game during that four game losing streak.
Said Foster:”Our defense. We’re full of dogs. We are going to get after it no matter what. Every single play.”
Reporter:”Rayvon said you had dogs on defense.”
Said head coach Josh Robinson:”We have some guys that I think. He uses a little bit different verbage than me. We have some guys that we feel good about. We feel like we’re deeper in the secondary that a couple of years ago. We really only had about five. We feel like again, especially like wide receiver, we’ve got eight or nine. Then upfront we’ve got some really aggressive linemen. We’re about six deep at linebacker.”
Bruins will see some new faces in their region this fall, including powerhouse Calhoun.
Said Nuckolls:”They’re historically known for being good. Better competition. Bring that on.”
Said Robinson:”We have a quality schedule. We’re not going to go far. All of our games. Even our longest road trip is probably only thirty minutes away.”
