Notre Dame Takes Powerhouse Goodpasture Down to the Wire Before Falling 42-36

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Notre Dame nearly pulled off the upset in the first round of the state tournament. The Irish took powerhouse Goodpasture down to the wire before falling 42-36 on Wednesday night at the Notre Dame school. The Cougars entered the contest with a 29-2 record, and they were ranked number one most of the season. Notre Dame’s Tarik Nelson buried a three at the buzzer to give the Irish a 28-27 lead going to the fourth quarter. The Cougars got the lead to four with 2:30 to play. Derwin Lewis hit a three for Notre Dame to cut the lead to one with just over two minutes to play, but the Irish defense couldn’t get a stop or turnover from there. Lewis lead Notre Dame in scoring with 18 points.
