Notre Dame’s Cole McCormick Caps Off Season Signing D-One With Central Arkansas
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) It’s been a crazy year for Notre Dame senior basketball star Cole McCormick.
Just hours after signing with Division two UAH in November, McCormick suffered a wrist injury that sidelined him over a month.
But now here he is in April, signing once again, but this time with a Division one team.
News 12’s Brian Armstrong explains.
Said McCormick:” It’s been my dream to go D1 ever since I was little. It’s always been the plan.”
Notre Dame’s Cole McCormick is going to play basketball at the University of Central Arkansas.
Said McCormick:”Something I’ve always wanted to do and I got the opportunity, and now I’m just ready to get out there on campus.”
McCormick was originally going to play at the University of Alabama in Huntsville under John Shulman.
When Shulman left and went to Central Arkansas, McCormick followed.
Said McCormick:”As soon as he went there, he called me and he’s like, we still want you here. I want you to follow. And I was like, Yep, I want to go. And then my parents, of course, right? Well, you gotta go visit first. ”
Said McCormick’s high school coach Jonathan Adams:”When you have an athlete go to the next level is that, you know, you’re putting your player in his hands. And there’s nobody better in the country to me. ”
It was a weird senior year for McCormick, as he suffered a wrist injury, and he never got back to 100%.
Said McCormick:”Your hands are very important in basketball. So it was it was a challenge to be able to get back to even shooting right again. I’m still. It’s I don’t know how many months after, and I’m still trying to get find my shot back to be a hundred percent.”
Adams says McCormick was the perfect player to have because not only was he the best player on the court, he also allowed himself to be coach hard.
Said Adams:”Allows you to hold him accountable and holds himself accountable. It’s easier to hold everybody else accountable.”
Said McCormick:”He’s one of the best coaches, probably one of the best, if not the best coach of all time. So it’s obviously great to be able to be coached by him.”
