October 25 designated as ‘Dave Staley Day’

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Wednesday was a special day at News 12. We designated October 25 as “Dave Staley Day.”

Staley Day

Dave Staley recently retired from news on October 11, 2023.

But he came back to the station for one last hurrah.

Most of News 12’s employees attended the get-together. Many of us wore our own Hawaiian shirts in honor of Dave, who sported them regularly.

Even Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly stopped by. He, however, was not wearing his luau getup.

Staley Day 2

Mayor Kelly read a proclamation commemorating Dave Staley’s retirement after 40 years of broadcast news and sports service.

“His storytelling and his highlights have made a lasting impression on our community and a number of people whose story he has told over 40 years. Our community is better because he has been a part of it, and we will miss him on television greatly,” the proclamation reads.

Staley

Dave worked here at News 12 for more than two years.

He co-anchored the morning shows and had his own franchise: More to the Story with Staley.

Everyone here at News 12 will miss him greatly, and we hope to keep in touch with him as time goes on.
