Officer, inmate struggle over gun at Sequatchie Erlanger facility
SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — An inmate at the Erlanger-Sequatchie facility took a correction officer’s gun on Sunday and is now facing charges.
According to the Dunlap Police Department, the officer and inmate struggled over the gun. During the incident, the firearm discharged. Police have not said whether anyone was shot.
An off-duty officer from another agency helped the corrections officer retrieve the gun from the inmate, police say.
The police department identified the inmate as Lesley Alan Keeter, of Gruelti Laager, Tennessee.
Dunlap police and Sequatchie County deputies took Keeter back into custody after the incident.
“Some involved in the incident received minor injuries,” the police department added.
Dunlap detectives charged Keeter with two counts of aggravated assault.
The TBI is investigating the incident.
