Officer involved crash lands officer in hospital

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A Chattanooga police officer was sent to the hospital after being involved in a three car crash on Friday afternoon.

Officials say the crash happened at the intersection of Wilcox Boulevard and Dodson Avenue on Friday at 3:45 p.m. It involved a van, the police car, and a silver car.

A preliminary investigation revealed the police officer, Sean Lynch, was on a call, with sirens on, to assist another officer. Officials say Officer Lynch slowed down to make sure the intersection was clear. According to the investigation, that is when the van, driven by 55-year-old Gary Evans, approached the intersection, did not slow down and hit the police car, pushing it into the silver car.

Officer Lynch, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and is listed in stable condition. Officer Lynch had to be extracted from his car by the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Evans was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the third car was uninjured.

According to police, members of the Traffic Division are actively investigating the crash and charges are pending at this time.
