Officer involved shooting at gas station in Dade County, GA

DeKalb County AL officer shot a driver Sheriff says was trying to run him over

WILDWOOD, Georgia (WDEF) – One person was shot Monday night by law enforcement in northwest Georgia.

Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross says the incident happened at One 9 Fuel stop off I 59 at Wildwood exit around 7PM.

He says the officers were actually out of DeKalb County, Alabama.

Officers got a tip about a stolen vehicle.

Deputies from both Dade and DeKalb Counties stopped the suspect vehicle at the gas station.

Sheriff Cross says the driver then tried to run down one of the deputies, who fired back.

The driver has been taken to a hospital in Chattanooga.

The Sheriff does not know his condition at this time.

He says the driver did have active warrants out on him.

The two other occupants have been arrested and are facing pending charges.

Even though the officer involved is from Alabama, the case will be investigated by the GBI, since the shooting happened in Georgia.
