Officer-Involved Shooting in Grundy County, Body Found

Grundy County, Tenn. (WDEF) — An officer involved shooting led to one person being sent to the hospital and the body of a woman being found in the Coalmont area.

It happened around 10:30pm last evening following an attempted traffic stop on B Mine Road by Grundy County deputies.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office says the male driver reportedly pointed a firearm at the deputy, who then fired into the vehicle several times.

The Sheriff’s Office says that driver sideswiped the deputy’s cruiser, before they lost site of him.

The deputy involved was not injured.

Officials say the suspect later crashed on B Mine Road and is now in custody.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the body of 20 year old Shelby Comer was found inside the vehicle, and has been sent for autopsy in Nashville to determine the cause of death.

Grundy County, TN (WDEF) – A deputy with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a shooting Saturday evening in the Coalmont area of Grundy County.

According to the TBI, the suspect identified earlier has been located and, at this time, does not appear to be involved in this incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30pm last evening, following an attempted traffic stop on B Mine Road by deputies from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver reportedly pointed a firearm at the deputy, who then fired into the vehicle several times. The vehicle, which was facing the deputy’s vehicle at the time of the shooting, sped away and sideswiped the deputy’s cruiser.

The deputy involved was not injured. There was an attempted to pursue the vehicle, but officers lost sight of it.

A short time later, a citizen witnessed the suspect crashed off of the side of B Mine Road. The male driver approached the citizen and said that he had been shot and needed help, asking for the citizen’s vehicle.

The citizen drove off and contacted law enforcement. When officers arrived, the driver was not present.

However, a female’s body was found inside the vehicle, and has been identified as Shelby Comer, 20. Her body will be sent for autopsy in Nashville to determine the cause of death.

(WDEF) – Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum has confirmed that one of his deputies has been involved in a shooting on B Mine Road in Grundy County.

The shooting occurred Saturday evening around 10:35pm, following a pursuit. The deputy involved was not injured.

One person was taken to the hospital and another fled on foot. After a nine-hour manhunt in the B Mine Road area, deputies took the suspect into custody in a wooded area near the scene without incident. He has also been transported to a local hospital.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist in the investigation.
