DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF)  — An officer involved shooting occurred on Tuesday night after deputies arrived to care for an injured female victim in Fort Payne, AL.

Around 11:30 P.M., DeKalb County Deputies, Henagar Police Department, and Ider Police Department responded to call about an injured, female victim with a gunshot wound on Red Bud Drive in Ider.

An ambulance quickly came to transport the victim to the hospital.

While investigating the scene, it was determined that the shooting took place on Woodland Drive in Ider.

The DeKalb County SRT team went to an address on Woodland Drive to set a perimeter and secure the scene.

While at the scene, the SRT members conducted a callout at the residence and contacted an involved male subject in a vehicle behind the residence.

The male subject attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle and was caught by the SRT members.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident, “Law Enforcement on scene did everything in their power to stop the individual without having to shoot at him, but when your life or the life of another is at risk, you have to do anything you can to protect yourself and that is what they did.”
