Officials Offer Safety Tips After Hamilton Co. Gas Stove Explosion
It happened around 2:45 at a home on Crabtree Road in Hamilton County.
Fire fighters saw smoke coming from the basement.
Investigators tell us the homeowners had a propane supply tank outside.
They ran a line from the tank into the house and appliance.
Jack Brellenthin, Assistant Fire Chief in Dallas Bay, says, "It was free standing in the middle of the basement floor. I’m not sure exactly what they were doing, but apparently there was some leaking propane that accumulated and then either they were trying to light the stove or some ignition source set off the propane."
Three residents suffered minor first and second degree burns to their hands, arms, and face.
Damages to the home were around $5,000 dollars.
Fire officials say if you’re going to install anything with propane or natural gas, call a professional.
