Ohls Avenue shooting suspect arrested; charged with attempted first degree murder

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – The person wanted in connection to last weeks shooting on Ohls Avenue is now in custody on $170,000 bond.

Kerry McKinney Jr., 28, of Chattanooga was arrested and charged with three felonies including attempted first degree murder.

The charges stem from an armed robbery last Thursday night.

Richard Lovingood told police he was walking out of a residence in the 4300 block of Ohls Avenue when McKinney pulled up in a silver vehicle and said, "give me all you got."

According to Lovingood, he told McKinney he didn’t have anything so Lovingood began shooting him.

Lovingood told police that after he was shot and fell to the ground, McKinney continued to fire more shots at him.

Lovingood suffered gunshot injuries to both his hand and abdomen and required immediate surgery at Erlanger.

McKinney was picked Tuesday by authorities on a warrant after Lovingood identified him as the shooter.

According to Hamilton County court records, McKinney has been previously convicted for possesion of illegal narcotics, reckless endangerment and assault.

His next court date is December 28.
