Old Hutcheson Hospital building changes hands in Fort Oglethorpe

FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia (WDEF) – The property of the old Hutcheson Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe has changed hands.

Enots, LLC has struck a deal to hand it over to the Catoosa County Economic Development Authority.

CHI Memorial will continue to operate the hospital until they build a new facility.

They are now working on a certificate of need from the Georgia Department of Community Health for a new hospital.

CHI Memorial just got approval to begin building a new one further down Battlefield Parkway in Ringgold.

But once they move out of Hutcheson, the EDA will control what happens next with the property.

Hutcheson was built near the entrance to the Chickamauga Battlefield in 1953.

In a statement released Tuesday, Catoosa County officials say  “The donation to the EDA will allow the community to maintain control of future development on the campus while CHI Memorial Hospital Georgia continues to operate from its facilities in the main building.”

Their goal is to have a master plan for the site in the next six months.

Catoosa County EDA Director Keith Barclift says “Even if the EDA decides not to redevelop the property, having community ownership allows us to work with a redevelopment partner whose vision aligns with that of the community.”
