Ooltewah Hoping to Regain Their Swagger
Ooltewah, TN-(WDEF-TV) Ooltewah hopes to get their swagger back this fall.
The Owls have won a total of just five games in the last three years.
Brian Armstrong gives Ooltewah the 30-in-30 spotlight.
Said head coach Goose Manning:”We should have been better.”
Ooltewah football went just 2-8 last year with multiple one-possession losses. Head coach Goose Manning was quick to take the blame for the losing record.
Said Manning:”We didn’t do some things on offense that we should have done. Gave up some big plays in the secondary at times and cost us games. Part of that is just learning how to win.”
How do you learn how to win?
Said Manning:”You’ve got to do everything with intent, purpose, and urgency. Everything has got to have a reason for doing it.”
Said receiver Brock Smallen:”We’ll be able to change around the offense. Throw the ball some more. Get some more success on the offense.”
The top thing for Ooltewah is they need to replace four defensive linemen and all five offensive linemen.
Said Manning:”At this time last year I think I was talking about how nice it was to have all these linemen. Now we’re with the rest of Hamilton County with that being a scarce part of the football team.”
But Ooltewah has strength and experience in the skill positions.
Said Smallen:”Definitely helps that we have been together for three years.”
Said Manning:”Brock Smallen and Luke Barr coming back. Both two year starters for us offensively. They’ll be playing in the secondary too or Brock will be. We’ve got kids that have played a bunch of snaps, so we’ll lean on them a lot.”
