OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) presented an Ooltewah man with the Dr. Walter R. Clark Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. John Mullins is the owner of the Animal Care Center of Ooltewah.

Elizabeth Howe of Varallo Public Relations said Dr. Mullins was “nominated for his ‘help with local challenges’ including both disaster relief and assistance on animal neglect cases.”

Dr. Mullins has been a veterinarian for nearly 40 years. He worked on various animals while in the African Bush. After returning home, he started a private practice.

Mullins has been a member of National Veterinary Response Team-3 for 19 years. This response team is part of the National Disaster Medical System in the Department of Health and Human Services. This organization responds to animal-involved national disasters.

“We are pleased to honor this year’s recipients of the TVMA Awards,” said TVMA President Bob Parker. “Each of these outstanding individuals contributes to promote veterinary medicine, animal welfare and public health.”

TVMA announced their award recipients during the Music City Veterinary Conference. The conference took place on Saturday, February 11.

TVMA said those awarded are nominated by an awards committee of their peers.

The TVMA’s goal is to ensure the health and well-being of all animals.
