Ooltewah Unicorns 6U Softball Team Headed to Dizzy Dean World Series
Ooltewah, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Ooltewah Unicorns six-and-under softball team hopes to celebrate the Fourth of July with their own brand of fireworks. They’re headed to Southaven, Mississippi, this weekend to play in the six-and-under Dizzy Dean World Series.
Reporter:”How much fun have you had this year playing for the Unicorns?”
Said Unicorns player Allison Sherbesman:”A thousand.”
Said head coach Angie Gentry:”And some of these girls I’ve had for two years now, and they’ve played together for two years. I feel like that makes an enormous difference in their skill levels and their confidence.”
The Unicorns are pretty confident at the plate.
Each girl gets five pitches and three swings per at-bat.
Said Gentry:”And you’ll see some of these real little bitty ones that probably aren’t 50 pounds soaking wet, rip it to the outfield.”
Reporter:”Have you ever hit a home run before?”
Said Unicorns player Kinsley Hunt:”Yeah I hit more than one.”
Reporter:”Wow. That’s pretty cool. What does it feel like when you hit one?”
Said Hunt:”Happy.” (laughter)
Reporter:”What do you think the best part of your team is? Have any idea what the best part is?”
Said Unicorns player Aubrey Legge:”The team spirit.”
Added Gentry:”Part of the reason I love this age is because they care about one another. They don’t care who is the All Star.”
Reporter:”How surprised are you that you are going to the Dizzy Dean World Series?”
Said Sherbesman:”Very. So impressed.”
Said Gentry:”It is a first for the organization here at Ooltewah. We’re the first softball team to qualify and go to the world series.”
Reporter:”How excited are you about going down to Mississippi to play in this. This is kind of a big deal.”
Said Legge:”Everybody is really excited.” (laughter)
Reporter:”Are you excited about going to the Dizzy Dean World Series?”
Said Hunt:”Yes.”
Reporter:”Why?”
Said Hunt:”Because we get to go in a motel.”
Said Gentry:”We want to have a good time, but we’re not driving six hours to lose. And most importantly, they need to make some memories because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
