Organization Calls for Justice for Police Shooting Victim

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – A small memorial sits at the spot Javario Eagle was shot by police officers at the Emma Wheeler homes.

An emotional vigil held Sunday night brought up calls for justice for his death.

"We’re going to have our day and we’re going to have justice for my son," his mother cried.

Frustrated neighbors of Eagle seek a forum where discussion, even protests to the controversial shooting, can be held.

"I say if everybody who could really relate to a situation like this, if they could just come out and speak their minds, let the news know, yeah they were trying to protect," Domanic Gillespie who is a neighbor of Eagle’s said. "But that’s not protecting. That’s taking a man’s life."

Residents of Emma Wheeler said the community activists’ group Concerned Citizens for Justice was going door to door in the neighborhood speaking with witnesses.

The Facebook page of the organization has a profile picture of a Javario Eagle in a cap and gown and CALLS for his justice.

"They is not going to get away with this. They not going to get away. The truth is out."

Messages left with the group weren’t returned but the PERSONAL Facebook page of the father who was killed Saturday under circumstances that are under debate shows a man very different from the graduate pictured.

Officials said Eagle had known gang connections.

But friends also claim he had mental health issues and the shooting never should have happened.

"Whatever they say on the news, that’s not really what happened," Gillespie said. "Hopefully we can get some justice out of this. That’s all I’m really asking for. And I’m hoping everyone out here can come together."
