Organizations from local Fraternities and Sororities Give Back
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Five different African-American based fraternities and sororities hosted their first step show.
Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. all performed at this event.
Step shows usually showcase percussive dancing and other dance moves most commonly known to be displayed in the African-American community.
News 12’s own Valeria Sistrunk made an appearance as as a judge to represent her own sorority of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council hosted the event to help educate and give back to their community.
The money raised from tickets goes to the Bethlehem Center.
The Council hopes this will be the first of many events in our community.
A member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Justin Delaney stated, “The reason why it’s important is because we are actually doing this for our people, our community. The community that we support and the community that supports us as well. It’s kinda like we are giving back to them, so it’s pretty much what it’s all about is giving back.”
The Bethlehem Center will use the donation for education and leadership programs for South Chattanooga children.
