Pachyderm Club Discusses Growth Issues
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Community members showed up at the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club this afternoon to hear from District Nine Commissioner Dr. Steve Highlander.
He spoke directly to local concerns about growth, zoning, and education, drawing from years of experience on the school board and now as chair of the arts, education, and recreation committee.
Dr. Steve Highlander is the Hamilton County Commissioner for District 9, bringing years of experience in public service. Before joining the commission, he served on the Hamilton County School Board from 2014 until 2021.
As commissioner, he chairs the Arts, Education, and Recreation Committee and serves on the Roads, Waste, Energy, Transportation and Zoning Committee, as well as the Diversity and Equity Committee.
Dr. Steve Highlander, District 9 Commissioner, had this to say at the meeting:
“We’re looking at Plan Hamilton, which is coming up. The builders want to keep things the same way they are or even increase them. The homeowners in my area don’t want urban growth in rural areas, so what we’re trying to do is a compromise. We’re trying to meet, which is what I hope will happen”.
Highlander also addressed questions regarding the Plan-Hamilton development plan, reassuring residents that their voices are part of the conversation.
