Patient information exposed in healthcare company data breach

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Nashville-based healthcare company, HCA Healthcare Inc, said they faced a recent data breach. HCA owns the Parkridge Health System, consisting of four of Chattanooga’s local hospitals.

On Monday, HCA said the exposure included the following:

  • Patient names,
  • Phone numbers,
  • Dates of birth,
  • Appointment dates and other personal information.

However, the company explains this data does not include patient diagnoses, treatment, credit card and payment details, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers or passwords.

They said an “unknown and authorized party” breached the healthcare information. It happened through an external storage location used to automate email formatting.

The breach did not affect all customers, though, HCA said. The company said they are contacting all those who were impacted and providing needed support.

HCA Healthcare Inc owns these local hospitals:

  • East Ridge – Parkridge East Hospital,
  • Chattanooga – Parkridge Medical Center,
  • Chattanooga – Parkridge Valley Hospital,
  • Jasper- Parkridge West Hospital.
