Patriotic parade held for Medal of Honor recipient on 9/11
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Monday, September 11 will be a patriotic day in the scenic city.
Remembering the sacrifice of first responders, as well as service men and women, a patriotic parade will be held in Downtown Chattanooga.
Specifically, it will be honoring recent Medal of Honor recipient, Captain Larry Taylor.
The “Welcome Home Parade and Ceremony” held on September 11 will be a memorable event for many.
Medal of Honor recipient, Captain Larry Taylor has impacted many Americans and local Chattanoogans through his valiant service and bravery.
Retired U.S. Navy Captain Mickey McCamish looks forward to tomorrow’s festivities and honoring his fellow veteran.
“You talk about once in a lifetime events. Unfortunately, September the 11th was one of those events. But on a very positive and more happy note, tomorrow will be a once in a lifetime event. So, it’s an opportunity for every Chattanoogan to come out, line the Market streets, show your appreciation to Larry, and what he did so that we all enjoy the freedoms that we have today,” McCamish said.
McCamish shared that his and Taylor’s relationship goes back for many years as they grew up together in Chattanooga.
As one of the committee members organizing the event, he looks forward to supporting his fellow friend and veteran.
“Fun day tomorrow. Great tribute to Larry for the heroism that he displayed, the hero that he is. Violating the orders, but we have four men that were with us for a period of time. David Hill, of course, is the surviving. The co-pilot is in Costa Rica, so it’s a great day to remember what Larry has done,” McCamish said.
The parade will start off at 11:30 a.m. on Martin Luther King Boulevard and go down Market Street to West Aquarium Way.
There will be about 80 military-oriented units in the parade.
The event will start with flyovers of Cobra and Apache helicopters onto the Chattanooga Green, followed by the parade and guest speakers following after.
Parade participants will be announced by News 12’s Chip Chapman and Mickey McCamish.
The public is encouraged to get involved and show up Monday in Downtown Chattanooga for this patriotic celebration.
Wear your red, white, and blue and come out to support one of Chattanooga’s own in a special patriotic parade.
