Pawpaw’s Homeless Ministry hosts annual Miracle on 11th Street

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Pawpaw’s Homeless Ministry hosted its annual Miracle on 11th Street event, bringing food, fellowship, and holiday cheer to Chattanooga’s unhoused community.

The holiday season is a time for giving, and organizers say the ministry’s mission is to ensure no one feels forgotten.

The event provides essential items, warm meals, and a sense of community for those experiencing homelessness.

Jay Proudlove, who attended the event, says the message behind the ministry is just as important as the resources it provides.

“Just keep your head up,” Proudlove said. “Like Mike says, ‘love your neighbor.’ Help your neighbor out. Help somebody in need. Just take the time to stop and say hello.”

Community groups also came together to make the event special.

Howard High School cheerleaders performed, spreading holiday spirit and wishing attendees a happy holiday season.

Organizers say the goal of Miracle on 11th Street is to offer more than just necessities.

Pawpaw’s Homeless Ministry founder, Mike Rice, says the event is about unity, celebration, and hope.

“Today, we’re celebrating a Miracle on 11th Street,” Rice said. “It’s about bringing everyone together for the holidays, celebrating Santa Claus, the birth of Jesus, and sharing a good meal, stockings, toys, and fellowship.”

Proudlove says he has been homeless for more than a year but remains grateful for the ongoing support.

“It’s more than just a meal,” he said. “It gives you something to look forward to. It gives you a reason to have hope and to keep trying to not give up.”

Volunteers and vendors say serving the community during the holidays is a meaningful experience.

Brittany McQuern, a volunteer, says the event holds a special place in her heart.

“I used to be in the same place they are,” McQuern said. “It just warms my heart to see everyone so happy.”

Members of the Kappa Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity also participated, encouraging unity and compassion.

“Especially during the holidays, we have to remember how blessed we are,” said Dr. Reginald Smith. “If you have time, talent, or treasure, come out and help your fellow neighbor here in Chattanooga.”

Organizers say Pawpaw’s Homeless Ministry hopes to continue expanding its outreach and invites the community to get involved in future events, spreading hope far beyond the holiday season.
