Pedestrian dies after being struck in Fort Payne

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WDEF) — A man died after being hit by a car in Fort Payne on Thursday.

The Fort Payne Police Department said it happened January 11 just after 5 p.m.

A pedestrian was in the northbound travel lane of Williams Avenue NE when he was hit by a car.

The car was a 2013 Nissan Sentry, which was also traveling north on Williams Avenue.

The police department identified the pedestrian as David Dawayne Elkins, 31.

Authorities pronounced Elkins dead at the scene.

They are still investigating the incident.
