People remember hit and run victim with memorial

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Friday, a memorial sat off to the side of Lee Highway for 37-year-old Aquana Aneitra Kincy.

Chattanooga Police said that evidence suggests Kincy was walking on Lee Highway when she was hit by a vehicle and killed Monday night.

“I wanted to stop in and talk to her, but I never got a chance. So I’m just here saying my hellos and goodbyes,” Dustin Welch said.

Dustin Welch wrote “remembered forever” next to several other written messages at the spot where Kincy would sit outside.

“She was a, pretty much a fixture in the community. I never met her or spoke to her, but she seemed like a remarkable woman. She would sit out here day in and day out in any weather, extreme heat, cold, wind, rain,” Welch said.

Welch said his father spoke to Kincy once.

She told him she was just out living for Jesus and praying for people.

“I remember at one time she had a pray request sign set up over across the street when she first hit the scene,” Welch said.

Chattanooga Police released new information on a possible suspect vehicle being a 2003-2011 Lincoln Town Car with likely having damage to the front of the vehicle.

“People need to keep their eyes open. I’m a local cyclist. So I’m out on the roadways a lot and it’s a huge problem, and people not paying attention on the roadways. So please just keep your nose out of your phone and your eyes on the road for everyone’s sake and your own,” Welch said.

If you have any information on this incident you are asked to call Chattanooga Police, 423-698-2525.

Ask to speak with a Traffic Unit Sergeant or Investigator Cavitt.
