Petition drive to save historic Old Stone Fort Bridge near Manchester

MANCHESTER, Tennessee (WDEF) – A group is using a petition drive to save an historic bridge in a Middle Tennessee.

The Tennessee State Parks is considering replacing the bridge in the Old Stone Fort State Park that crosses the Duck River.

Their plan is to replace it with a new vehicular and pedestrian crossing that leads to an R-V campground.

They would save a part of the old bridge and move it to a hiking trail.

But a group has formed to preserve the old bridge the way it is.

Right now, the bridge is closed because of deterioration and extensive damage and an alternate route was built. It is open to pedestrians.

The bridge was built in 1906 in Franklin County, then moved to the park in 1970.

Supporters have formed a Facebook group and started a petition drive that has gotten almost a thousand signatures.

You can sign the petition by clicking here.

This is the link to their Facebook Group.
