2 arrested in East Ridge, Gunbarrel police chase

UPDATE:

The East Ridge Police Department has given more information on the morning police chase.

They have arrested two people, a man and a woman, on outstanding warrants. The man will also have several additional charges after today’s events, police said.

The police department has not identified either of the suspects.

A child was in the car at the time of the chase. Officers said the kid appeared uninjured. EMS, however, took the child to a hospital as a precaution.

The chase started when East Ridge Police tried to detain a man who had multiple warrants. This was on the 5500 block of Ringgold Road.

However, police said the man evaded, hit a police car and got onto I-75.

Officers pursued the suspect all the way to Gunbarrel Road, where he crashed.

They added that the man tried to escape on foot, but officers caught him after a short chase.

In addition, authorities explained how a pedestrian was struck in this incident.

Two officers were in an East Ridge Police car when they were hit by a turning vehicle. They say this caused the officers to lose control of the car, at which point they drove up a sidewalk and “grazed a pedestrian.”

EMS transported both officers and the pedestrian. The police department said all of their injuries were non-life threatening.

Chattanooga Police Department officers are now working both crashes.
