Police investigating deadly shooting at Dalton apartment complex
DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — Police are investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Dalton man.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2025, in the area of Scenic Valley Place apartments off Crawford Street.
Officers initially responded to a call about a fight involving a person with a gun who was seen leaving the area in a vehicle.
On scene, they were told shots had been fired, but witnesses didn’t know anyone had been hit.
Officers later found the victim in the parking lot, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Dalton Police Department (DPD) stated they stopped several vehicles nearby that matched witness descriptions.
One of the vehicles was identified as belonging to the shooter.
The individuals in the vehicle were detained and interviewed at the Police Services Center.
Preliminary findings reveal the victim may have been involved in an altercation while holding a knife, and reportedly attacked a man with a gun, who then fired in self-defense.
According to DPD, they have identified and interviewed the person who shot the victim and are still working to learn more.
No charges have been filed at this time.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family.
