Police: Man faces attempted murder charge after overnight assault

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police arrested a suspect for an aggravated assault on Poplar Street overnight and charged him with attempted murder.

Officers arrived on scene at the 1200 block of Poplar Street Ct. at around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.

There, police found two victims: a 34-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.

The police department said the man had several stab wounds and the woman had blunt-force trauma to the head.

Investigators believe the suspect and male victim got into an argument about clothes. They said the suspect then hit the female victim and stabbed the male victim.

Chattanooga Police’s Homicide Unit conducted an investigation and then identified the suspect as 27-year-old Tezdris Russell.

Detectives arrested Russell and charged him with attempted first-degree murder.

First responders took the two victims to a local hospital for treatment. There has been no update on their conditions.

Chattanooga Police said their investigation is ongoing.
