Police respond to reported shooting at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (CBS News) – Police in North Carolina have responded to reports of a shooting at a busy mall in an affluent area of Raleigh, according to CBS affiliate WNCN.

The station reports that police in Raleigh were working to secure Crabtree Valley Mall on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports that gunshots were fired inside.

Police have said that no suspects are in custody, nor have they found a gunshot victim yet.

Emergency personnel apart from police were called to the scene. Helicopters buzzed overhead.

A witness, Laurren Baker, told CBS News that she and her friends heard gunshots as they were entering the mall. They turned and ran outside, along with a rush of other people. Baker said the incident happened near the mall’s food court and she saw a person get handcuffed, but police have not confirmed those details.

John Riggleman and Kristin Warring told The Associated Press that they were heading to a video game store when they heard shots, also coming from the mall’s food court. They ran into the store with dozens of others before the doors of the mall were locked.

Warring said she heard an additional series of shots.

Police told them they could leave the store at about 3 p.m.

An interstate exit to reach the mall was closed.
