Police say Air Pollution Control Bureau employee was the would-be shooter near Hamilton Place

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police on Tuesday released information on the active shooter incident near Hamilton Place Mall on Monday.

Just after 2 PM, they got multiple calls that a person was firing shots inside a CBL office building next to the mall.

They say several witnesses say 67-year-old John Schultz pointed a gun at several people and pulled the trigger.

But the gun didn’t fire.

The other employees got away from him.

By the time police got to him, Schultz was dead.

Police believe he used a second gun on himself.

They identify Schultz as an employee of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau.
