Polk County man charged with second degree murder after shooting at local gas station

POLK COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A Polk County man is being charged with second degree murder after a fatal shooting at a local gas station.

On July 8, 2025, at 12:35 a.m., deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) was dispatched to 178 U.S. Highway 64, the E-Z Stop Gas Station for the shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies located 52-year-old Mickey Lee Goodman who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.

PCSO said Goodman was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

After interviewing witnesses and obtaining surveillance footage, PCSO identified the suspect as 34-year-old Jayson A. Wentworth.

Authorities went to Wentworth’s residence, and he was taken into custody without incident.

He is being held on a $750,000 bond at the Polk County Jail.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
