Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigating overnight fatal shooting

POLK COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting where one person died and another was injured.

Off highway 411, investigators spent their morning at this home after a fatal shooting. Polk County Sheriff Steve Ross says late Wednesday a man reported he and his friend had been shot.

Deputies responded and found the two men, who were then transported by helicopter to Erlanger. One of the men, who was in his mid twenties, later died from his injuries.

“We are still collecting evidence and interviewing a couple of witnesses, the young man at the hospital and trying to gain some leads and see where we go from here,” Sheriff Ross said.

Investigators will also interview the third person who was in the house at the time of the shooting.

“We are just going to find out what they know. You always match up the conversations with the evidence at the scene,” Sheriff Ross said.

Sheriff Ross says he believes this is an isolated incident.

“I don’t think we have somebody running out and doing this at random,” Sheriff Ross said.

This is the first deadly shooting of the year in Polk County.

“When somebody has something like this happen, it is going to concern us. And we will get to the bottom of this,” Sheriff Ross said.

While investigators search for answers, Sheriff Ross is saddened by what happened.

“We’ve got two families now that are destroyed because of this and whoever the suspect is when we catch him, that family is going to be destroyed, so it is a no win situation. It is tough.”

At this time, no suspects have been named or arrested.
