Dozens of people were seen leaving the airport following the reported incident.
The NYPD is assisting at the request of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
There is no confirmation of an actual shooter at this time.
Port Authority: Investigation indicates no shots fired at JFK Airport
NEW YORK (CBS News) — Reports of shots fired at JFK International Airport in New York City led to confusion and panic on Sunday evening as passengers were evacuated.
The NYPD told CBS New York that multiple calls started coming in around 8:34 p.m. of reports of shots fired at Terminal 8 of JFK Airport.
However, the Port Authority said in a statement that a preliminary investigation indicates that no shots were fired.
