EAST BRAINERD, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A portion of Heritage Park is scheduled for a prescribed burn tomorrow.

Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024, park and outdoor officials will conduct a live burn.

The burn will begin at 1:00 p.m. due to humidity levels as well as wind speed & direction.

Heritage Park’s dog park and portions of the walking path behind the area will be closed during the burn.

The dog park will close at 10:00 a.m.

Along with park and outdoor officials, the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) will also be present.

CFD said smoke will be visible in the area during this time, and that there is no need to call 911 to report the flames.

Prescribed burns are needed to reduce risk of wildfires, encourage native plant growth, and improve the habitat for wildlife.

CFD also said the public is asked to not spectate due to safety concerns.
