Prepare to say “Namaste” at the Creative Discovery Museum

Creative Discovery Museum’s Mackenzie Steele and Swati Patel join News 12’s Amelia Greer in saying “Namaste” and previewing the newest traveling exhibit.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Creative Discovery Museum welcomes their latest traveling exhibit, “Namaste India,” which celebrates India’s beautiful culture and heritage.

The 1800 foot “box” at the Creative Discovery Museum will be filled with items and interactive activities that teach Indian culture, traveling form The Magic House in St. Louis.

The Creative Discovery Museum chose to host the “Namaste India” exhibit given the large Indian association in Chattanooga that continues to spread and educate their culture to the community.

The activities help children experience the typical day in a life of a child from another country, allowing children to explore the wonders of India. They will get a chance to see what a typical Indian home looks like and smell the delicious food that is often found in their street side cafes.

Swati Patel, the engagement coordinator for the exhibit, was able to bring her forward her voice and experience of Indian culture. She says that, “Indian-Americans are just so happy that our city would bring in such an exhibit that’s great for all children to have an immersive experience to really try to grasp the culture.”

The exhibit will feature once a month cooking demos of Indian food, various activities for school field trips, and unique themed weekend activities.
The traveling exhibit opens on January 18 and runs through May 11.
