CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A project to bring an inclusive playground to Heritage Park is set to get support from the Hamilton County government.

The proposed 16,000 square foot playground would be designed for children with disabilities.

The project was initially proposed in 2017, and had to be put on hold because of the Covid pandemic.

This caused the project’s cost to skyrocket to two million dollars.

The county is set to give eight hundred thousand dollars to the project, which should help the project be completely funded by the end of the month.

Bobby Dann with the Chattanooga Kiwanis Club said, “This two million dollar number is getting to be realistic now. When we first saw it we said we’ve never done anything that big. We’re excited and see the end coming. If we can get this equipment ordered with the county contribution we could all continue to work and erected this Spring.”

There will be a “Jail and Bail” fundraiser held at the park next Thursday.
