Protecting Canine Officers in Chattanooga

Robin Scott is a different breed just like these canine officers on the Chattanooga Police Department.

Not many people can say they go door to door asking for money to protect one of the city’s greatest assets.

Scott adds, "These dogs will literally give their life for any officer."

We first met Scott several months ago when she raised a thousand dollars to purchase a canine vest.

It went to Duko.

Well, since then she’s outfitted five dogs from the Chattanooga Police Department and one from Riverdale, Georgia.

Scott adds, "I’m not going to sit back and wait til we lose one to say Oh now we need a vest."

Scott says this all started with a video she watched not too long ago.

Scott adds, "I saw an officer crying because he sent his dog in and he was shot and he wasn’t a vest. It affected me."

The Chattanooga Police Department says they’re lucky they haven’t had that happen.

According to Scott, "When that dog goes in without a vest, there could be a knife, a gun, I’ve heard of dogs being bitten. One got thrown out of a window."

Now, Scott says to protect every canine officer in Chattanooga, she needs five more vests and she recently found out Hamilton County needs four.

Scott adds, "I feel like they’re should be a community step up to protect these dogs because we need them."

And the Chattanooga Police Department agrees that they are very much needed.
