HCSO deputies first responded to Hunter Road at 10 a.m. on Friday for an aggravated domestic assault call. Deputies said Lockhart was attempting to flee the Ooltewah area near I-75 south. They tried to stop him, but he refused, and a pursuit began.

However, they broke off the pursuit near Bonny Oaks Drive due to traffic conditions, the HCSO said. A little bit later, deputies witnessed the suspect vehicle driving north on Highway 153.

Deputies began pursuing Lockhart going north, while Captain Daniels was driving south with emergency equipment engaged. The HCSO said Captain Daniels and Lockhart then collided head-on.

The sheriff’s office said Captain Daniels sustained a hand injury in the crash. He is receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Lockhart also sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at a hospital.
