Quarterback Talk Big Topic For Vols at SEC Media Days
Tennessee had one of the strangest off-seasons with basically a quarterback exchange with UCLA.
That obviously sparked a lot of conversation when the Vols took the podium at SEC media Days in Atlanta.
Josh Heupel would rather hear more Rocky Top, than hear another question about his quarterback situation.
Said Heupel:”I know when I open it up for questions that the first one will be about our quarterback situation.”
Starter Nico Iamaleava split at the end of spring.
Weird timing. But not so according to Heupel.
Said Heupel:”You can lose a quarterback at a lot of different times right? You can lose one week one first quarter of a ballgame in your opener. Now you are on to number two.”
Nico went to UCLA.
Then Tennessee brought in UCLA quarterback Joey Augilar.
Said linebacker Arion Carter:”Just him overall. He’s a leader. The experience that he brings is just once in a lifetime that we have, and I’m grateful to have a guy like that in the room.”
Maybe Nico’s departure has public perception of Tennessee as the ‘Vulnerable Vols’.
Said tight end Miles Kitselman:”I try to stay off social media as much as possible. It’s just rat poison. Something you really don’t need or focus on.”
Vols aren’t taking the rat poison from Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, who said this summer that Vandy runs the state of Tennessee.
Said Carter:”I don’t really pay close attention to off-season comments. I feel like that’s what we have the season for.”
All that matters is seizing the opportunity for Big Orange nation.
Said Heupel:”Excited to open up camp. Our fan base is nothing short of the best in college football. You look at our season ticket waiting list of over 24,000 fans. Couldn’t be more excited to get ready to go tee this thing up with these guys.”
