Quay Wiggles Continues Mocs Tradition of Talented Defensive Lineman
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Defensive line will be a position of strength once again for the Mocs this season.
And it’s an even bigger strength when those guys are experienced.
Take defensive lineman Quay Wiggles.
He’ll be on the field for the fifth year in-a-row.
Quay Wiggles has seen some talented D-linemen at UTC.
And now it’s time to let everyone know he’s in that group too.
Said Wiggles:”Being here for five years. Just seeing guys come in and out. I soak the game up well. Now it’s my time to just put it all together and show everybody what I can do.”
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”He has got to be good because when you have the three technique in there active, and he’s active. That gives you a chance. Gives you a chance to be pretty good on defense.”
And like Wiggles’ name suggests, he can get off blocks.
Said offensive lineman Reid Williams:”Oh yeah he definitely does. He has got some wiggles on him. He has got some moves.”
Said Wiggles:”I got all the moves. It’s just going to be a matter of time before I use every last one of them.”
Said Williams:”He has got power. He’s a strong weight room guy, but he’s also twitchy. He has got all the aspects you think of when you are looking at a good, explosive D-lineman.”
Wiggles can flat out rock-blocks.
Against North Alabama in 2022, he just shoved the up-back into the punter for the block that turned into a UTC touchdown.
Maybe Wiggles wears zero because there’s zero chance of blocking him.
Said Wright:”You are not going to be in a jersey number of zero or one if you are not a good player. That’s the thing. He’s a good player, so I don’t mind him being a zero.”
Reporter:”Coach Wright said you’ve got to be a player to wear one or zero.”
Said Wiggles:”Yeah. That’s how he feels. But you got to be a dog to have that zero I want to tell you that now.”
