Racial slurs posted during City Council Zoom meeting

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga City Council members conducted the first ever council meeting through Zoom’s tele-conferance program.

It’s a new social distance practice between council members.

The purpose of the meeting was to continue to find ways to offer services to the city and it’s municipalities.

Unfortunately as the meeting began, racial slurs were being used in the public comment section causing a distraction.

Councilman Anthony Byrd tells us “It hurts to know that in 2020 to know that as an African American you still have to do deal with such hateful comments.”

“Although it hurt, then it became sad because I know whoever was on the other side of those messages, that person is hurting, that person needs love, that person is going through something.”

City council is looking for a plan to block negative and deragoatory comments through their I-T department for future meetings.
