Snow falling Monday in Marion County.

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF)- Much of the Tennessee Valley saw rare mid-March snow on Monday.

The snow occurred just hours after a severe line of thunderstorms had passed through the area.

While roads in valley locations primarily stayed clear with temperatures over freezing, some mountainous communities reported snow sticking on the roads causing slick travel conditions.

In Hamilton County, the W and Robert’s Mill Road were closed going up Walden’s Ridge.

Signal Mountain Police say that the town was ready for the snow.

Lt. David Holloway of SMPD said, “Of course it’s a little more than we thought what was gonna happen, but our guys and ladies are so good in Public Works so roads in the town are passable.”

Several school systems have cancelled classes on Tuesday.
