Rashun Freeman is Mr. Versatility For the Ooltewah Owls
Ooltewah, TN-(WDEF) Ooltewah and Rhea County meet for the second time this season in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
The Owls won the first go-round 16-0.
For Ooltewah to win again, they’ll likely need a big effort from their versatile play-maker, Rashun Freeman.
Rashun Freeman is blessed with the most coveted trait in football. Speed.
Rashun Freeman is blessed with the most coveted trait in football. Speed.
Said head coach Mac Bryan-"Very explosive player. Very fast. Got a gear he can get to that a lot of people can’t. Very good in the weight room. He’s a strong guy, and when they try to tackle him, he’s not a little back."
Freeman may truly run like the wind because sometimes it looks like defenders are trying to tackle the wind.
Said Freeman-"When I was a sophomore, and we were playing McMinn Couny. I picked up a fumble. When I scored. Their whole team, almost all of them were on the ground."
Freeman may not have gaudy stats, but he knows how to score. Freeman had only 63 rushing carrries in the regular season, but 13 went for touchdowns. On defense, he had four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.
Reporter-"How hard is it to not play him all the time?"
Said Bryan-"Very difficult. You just can’t do that. In playoff time, we’ve kind of let him tell us when he has his wind back, and he’s ready to go."
Coach Bryan wants Freeman to have freedom on the back end of the defense.
Bryan-"A lot of colleges said he was a corner. Probably may well be, but we play him more at safety because you can’t really take him away from the game that way. We feel like if he played corner this year, he would see very little action."
Freeman enjoys his role in perhaps the region’s top defense.
Freeman-"We’ve been growing up together since sixth grade. Same seniors. We always talked to each other about if we stayed together, we could be pretty good. All of us are still on the same team. Still in the same defense, and we’re doing good."
