Real Life Star of Movie ‘Woodlawn’ Speaks to Notre Dame Football Team
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Notre Dame football team got a pep talk Friday from a real-life star of the Christian gridiron movie, ‘Woodlawn.’
Hank Erwin spoke to the Irish before they left for their playoff game tonight in Knoxville against Alcoa.
Erwin was the chaplain for the Woodlawn high school football team in Birmingham in the 70’s.
The movie depicts the real-life struggles at Woodlawn.
But once the team dedicated their season to God, they overcame a losing record, and racial strife, to accomplish great success on the field.
When Erwin learned that the Notre Dame team had seen the film, and drew inspiration from it, he wanted a chance to speak with the Irish in person.
Said Erwin-"It has been so exciting to see how football players, coaches, and athletes of all different backgrounds have seen the movie, and been inspired to start playing for a higher purpose in life, other than their own personal ambitions. It has been so satisfying to see that kind of result.">
Erwin’s sons Andrew and Jon directed the movie Woodlawn.
