Red Bank Fighting to Return to State Tournament

Red Bank, TN-(WDEF-TV) It has been over a decade since Red Bank has been to the state basketball tournament.
But if the Lions can stay on a roll over the next week..they’ll punch their ticket to Murfreesboro.
Brian Armstrong has more on the Lions fantastic season.

They’re different and people will say, how are they different? And, uh, first I’d say commitment. The Red Bank basketball team knew early on this season it was going to be special. We went to Kentucky and man, we made it look easy and they were good teams. We played, but you know, when we came together, we made stuff look easy and I knew then we was going to have a shot at some special summer leading from conditioning to the first game and coach knew even before the players.

We went on a nice winning streak. We lost the last three most important games, they were tournament games. Um, and after that last game, um, they were in here the very next day. Um, and then the summer rolls around and you start seeing, we go to BCAT, which is in Memphis, so you’re playing some top tier talent there.

And I think this summer we really started seeing, man, these guys got a chance to be something special if, if they stay to it. Red Bank has been blowing out teams in the district and region games. It’s getting after each other in practice, man, pushing each other, making each other get better every day. You know, that really helps us in the shows and game when we, you know what I’m saying, when everybody does what they’re supposed to do and how we execute when we run our plays too.

Cause that’s something we focus on a lot. Execution. That’s a big part of our plan. And when we do it, that’s, we going, we, you know, we do real good. We had some instances this season where we were. We were struggling. Um, and you see them come together. They link up, they talk to each other. Um, I think it’s huge.

You know, you know, the old saying chemistry trumps talent. I think when you got chemistry and then talent with that chemistry, um, it makes things easier on a coach. The last time Red Bank made it to the state tournament was back in 2010 2011 season. So this team is checking off every accomplishment as they look to make it back to state.

We’ve, we’ve got the, the plaque on, uh, on our, on our wall in there, the district plaque, because that’s what we were after. And now we’re after regions. So now we’ve got the region plaque on the wall, um, in there. So, uh, you know, that’s just a goal I think for every team every year. And it’s, and it’s easy to say, yeah, I want to get there.

Yeah. Our goal is to get there, but the work that you got to put in to get there, um, is what makes it rewarding. We all made a vow to each other saying. We’re going to make, we’re going to push this for our last year. We’re going to make it to state for our last year. So I’m just proud of how we, we reaching our goals right now.
